All the timber we use in the manufacturing process is sourced from sustainably managed forests, which adhere to strict Forest Stewardship Scheme (FSC) guidelines.
This product has been manufactured using pressure treatment. This process is often referred to as tanalising and is far superior to any process where wood is only dipped or has a base coat applied.
Tanalising involves impregnation with Tanalith E (environmentally friendly) wood preservative, under controlled conditions in a vacuum pressure timber impregnation plant. When impregnated into the timber the chemicals become locked into the timber and cannot be removed. Occasionally the treatment leaves a green/blue residue on the surface which can be simply brushed off. This is a feature that occurs but is not considered a blemish. The residue is not harmful. The time taken for the residue to dissipate will vary with weather conditions.
The treatment described above provides a long service life and long term protection from fungal, insect attack and rot.
Tanalised timber does not need any further maintenance treatment but will naturally weather over the months. This is due to the effects of sun, moisture, wind and other exterior conditions. The efficacy of the preservative continues however.
